Thursday, January 21st, 2010Earthquake shakes San Francisco Bay Area
Friday, January 8th, 2010A “medium-sized” earthquake shook San Francisco Bay Area last Thursday, 10:09 AM with a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter scale as affirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey. It originated 11 miles northeast of San Jose, and 6 miles from Milpitas. Fortunately, with the magnitude of the earthquake, there was no information of any damages or injuries though reports of the said earthquake rapidly spread throughout the area. There were numerous earthquake reports that shook the Bay Area as well as California on a frequent basis from a magnitude of 2 to 4; however, the unusual thing about this earthquake is it included Milpitas. The area last experienced a 4.0-magnitude was last March 30 according to the USGS. For David Oppenheimer, seismologist from the San Francisco Chronicle and U.S. Geological Survey, San Andreas Fault has an 11 percent probability of a magnitude 6.7 or greater in 30 years.
